We are happy to be part of and share our cuisine with this charming and friendly community.

History of Monrovia

It’s hard to believe that this growing city of nearly 40,000 residents once contained only a few scattered homes and dirt roads. During the late 1880s, a group of successful banking and railroad building men converted the empty land into a community, one that was “typical of its time, yet unique in spirit.”

The city was named after William Monroe, who had a significant influence on the town and was the president of the Monrovia Land and Water Company. Under his guidance, the company promised to plant pepper trees along the streets, provide free water to the town and install electric streetlights. Because of his contribution and continued service, the town named the city after him.

Today, Monrovia is a well-developed city, hosting residents from all over the place. However, the city has kept its charming roots with Old Town Monrovia, an area where original brick buildings have been preserved and residents can enjoy a mix of charming shops and local restaurants. Old Town Monrovia is also the location for many community festivals and events.
